Blacksburg, South Carolina, often called the "Iron City," is a small town with a big place in Upstate history. Its roots trace back to the mid-18th century when the area was part of the hunting and trading territory of the Cherokee Nation. The town's location near the North Carolina border made it a gateway for commerce between the Carolinas, strengthening its strategic importance.

Infrastructure developments continued to shape Blacksburg's identity. U.S. Highway 29 and Interstate 85 placed the town along major transportation arteries connecting Spartanburg, Gaffney, and Charlotte. These routes not only enhanced trade but also encouraged new industries and commuters seeking small-town living within reach of larger cities. Despite the decline of iron mining, Blacksburg adapted, maintaining its agricultural base while expanding into light manufacturing and service sectors.
