The construction of bridges and highways improved access to the region, while the creation of hydroelectric dams along the Catawba River—most notably the Catawba Dam and later Lake Wylie—reshaped the landscape and brought new opportunities for recreation and industry. The Catawba Indian Nation, which had endured centuries of displacement and land loss, regained federal recognition in 1993 and now maintains a strong cultural and economic presence in the area. Churches, schools, and civic groups have long anchored community life, reinforcing a sense of continuity and pride in both the Indigenous and settler heritages of Catawba.

Modern-day Catawba is a blend of history, culture, and scenic beauty. Located near major urban centers like Rock Hill and Charlotte, it retains a distinctly rural and tranquil character. Rolling farmland, riverfront properties, and wooded hills define the area's landscape, while new residential developments have attracted families seeking peaceful living within easy reach of city amenities.
