Danville is a small town in western Twiggs County, Georgia, with roots that trace back to early settlement patterns in central Georgia. Prior to European arrival, the region was inhabited by Indigenous peoples, including Creek tribes, who utilized the area's forests, rivers, and fertile land for hunting, fishing, and agriculture. Following the Creek cessions in the early 19th century, European-American settlers moved into the area, establishing farms and small communities. Twiggs County was formed in 1809 from Wilkinson County, and Danville emerged as one of the county's earliest organized settlements, eventually becoming its county seat.

In 1901, the county seat was moved from Danville to Jeffersonville, marking a turning point in the town's prominence. Although this shift reduced Danville's political and economic influence, the town remained a stable rural community supported by agriculture and local commerce.
