East Bend, North Carolina, sits along the eastern bend of the Yadkin River, from which it derives its name. Before European colonization, the area was inhabited by Siouan-speaking peoples who relied on the river for fishing, agriculture, and transportation. The arrival of European settlers in the mid-1700s brought small farming families who cleared the land and established homesteads. Yadkin County was formed in 1850, carved out of Surry County, and East Bend soon became one of its most important river settlements.

U.S. Highway 67 eventually provided better access to Winston-Salem and the Piedmont Triad area, linking the rural community to broader markets. Although the railroads bypassed East Bend, the town maintained its vitality through road-based commerce and river proximity.

East Bend has always valued its close-knit community. Churches such as East Bend Friends Meeting and community schools fostered social unity. The town's annual festivals, local farms, and traditional crafts maintain a sense of identity and pride. Generations of residents have upheld the agricultural heritage that defines Yadkin County's cultural landscape.
