East Camden occupies a strategic portion of southern Kershaw County in South Carolina's Piedmont region, directly adjacent to the city of Camden. The land was originally explored and utilized by Indigenous groups—primarily the Catawba people—who made use of the Wateree River corridor and its tributaries for hunting, fishing, and seasonal settlement. The growth of Camden as a residential hub for Kershaw County expanded eastward, and the area now known as East Camden became increasingly integrated into the suburban-belt of the county seat, with commuter access and service industries taking root.
