Garland is a small town in northern Sampson County with a history rooted in agriculture, rail transportation, and rural community development. Prior to European settlement, Indigenous peoples inhabited the region, utilizing its fertile land, forests, and waterways for hunting, fishing, and seasonal agriculture. These developments allowed Garland to maintain relevance despite broader economic shifts affecting rural communities.
