Hallsboro is an unincorporated community in Columbus County located near Lake Waccamaw in southeastern North Carolina's Coastal Plain. The surrounding region possesses a long Indigenous history, particularly through the Waccamaw Siouan people, whose cultural connections to southeastern North Carolina remain significant. The area's forests, wetlands, rivers, and lakes provided food, transportation, and natural resources for generations before European-American settlement expanded.
