The town of Harrisburg, located in the western part of Cabarrus County, began as a quiet rural community in the early 18th and 19th centuries. Before European settlement, the region was home to members of the Catawba Nation, whose trails and trade routes once crossed the rolling Piedmont landscape. Throughout the late 20th century, Harrisburg's population began to grow steadily as families sought the benefits of small-town living within commuting distance of Charlotte's urban amenities. The town was officially incorporated in 1973, reflecting its growing sense of identity and civic organization. Community planning efforts emphasized preserving Harrisburg's rural character while accommodating residential and commercial development. The town invested in parks, schools, and infrastructure, ensuring a high quality of life for its residents.
