The area that would become Hoschton was originally part of the ancestral lands of the Creek and Cherokee peoples, who lived, farmed, and hunted throughout the rolling hills of northeast Georgia. Jackson County, established in 1796, became the governing unit that oversaw the growing farming communities in the region. Hoschton's formal founding came later in the 19th century, when the Hosch brothers, early merchants in the area, established a store that became a focal point for settlement. Their name, combined with "ton" meaning town, provided the community's permanent identity.

Agriculture played a dominant role in Hoschton's development, particularly cotton farming during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The surrounding fertile land supported row crops, and many families relied on small-scale farming for sustenance. Later, the construction of Interstate 85 just a few miles away opened Hoschton to broader regional growth. Highway access spurred residential expansion, drawing families and businesses that appreciated the balance between small-town living and metropolitan access.
