Modern infrastructure followed with the construction of North Carolina Highway 73 and Highway 49, linking Mount Pleasant to Albemarle, Charlotte, and Concord. These highways improved mobility for residents and supported local commerce, allowing Mount Pleasant to evolve from a farming community into a desirable residential town.

Culturally, Mount Pleasant has long been known for its close-knit community and small-town values. The town hosts numerous local churches, including several historic Lutheran and Methodist congregations that date back to the 1800s.
