Oak Ridge, North Carolina, has roots extending back to the late 18th and early 19th centuries, when European settlers moved into what is now northwestern Guilford County. These improvements allowed residents to commute more easily while preserving the peaceful, open landscapes that defined the community.

Throughout the 20th century, Oak Ridge saw steady growth. Residential neighborhoods began emerging alongside long-established farms, and small businesses opened to meet the needs of a diversifying population. The town's civic and cultural institutions expanded as well, supported by active community organizations, local churches, and the continued influence of Oak Ridge Military Academy. Community traditions, school events, and seasonal gatherings helped shape the small-town atmosphere that continues to characterize the area.

In 1998, Oak Ridge officially incorporated as a town, marking a significant milestone in its development. This step allowed the community to guide growth more intentionally, preserve open spaces, and protect its rural appeal. Modern-day Oak Ridge is known for its scenic beauty, equestrian culture, and strong community involvement. The town features parks, greenways, and spacious residential neighborhoods while offering convenient access to nearby Greensboro, High Point, and Winston-Salem. Its blend of historic charm, educational heritage, and high quality of life has made Oak Ridge one of the most desirable residential communities in Guilford County.
