The area that became Randleman, North Carolina, lies within land once inhabited by the Keyauwee and other Indigenous groups who lived throughout the Piedmont prior to European settlement. Randolph County was formally established in 1779, and the Deep River region soon became a draw for early settlers seeking fertile farmland and access to water resources. The beginnings of Randleman can be traced to gristmills and early industries that used the river's power, eventually forming the small settlement known first as Dicks Mills and later Union Factory. The creation of Randleman Lake in the early 2000s added a significant recreational and environmental asset, further contributing to the region's growth.
