Ringgold, the county seat of Catoosa County, holds a storied place in Georgia's history, blending early Native American presence, Civil War heritage, and modern suburban growth. The area was originally inhabited by the Cherokee Nation, whose culture and agriculture thrived in the fertile valleys of northwest Georgia. The historic Catoosa County Courthouse remains a local landmark, and the town's downtown retains much of its 19th-century charm. Ringgold also developed a reputation as a popular place for quick marriages, earning it the nickname the "Las Vegas of the South" during the mid-20th century.
