The town of Sharon, South Carolina, located in the scenic western reaches of York County and near the Chester County line, has roots that reach back to the early 19th century. The population has remained small, allowing Sharon to maintain its sense of place in a rapidly urbanizing region. Institutions like the Sharon ARP Church and the old Sharon School served as community anchors for generations. Though the textile industry's decline affected employment in surrounding areas, Sharon continued to thrive as an agricultural community with a focus on family-owned farms, livestock, and small businesses.
