The land that is now Trinity, North Carolina, was originally inhabited by Indigenous peoples of the Piedmont region, including Siouan-speaking groups who lived along the area's streams and rolling hills. European settlers arrived during the 18th century, primarily of German and Scots-Irish descent, establishing farms and homesteads throughout what would become Randolph County. Trinity's early development revolved around agriculture and faith-based communities, with the town deriving its name from Trinity College, an influential institution founded in the area before later relocating and becoming Duke University.
