Twin City's roots trace back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries when two neighboring towns, Summit and Graymont, developed along a rail line that extended through Emanuel County. The area had long been part of Creek and other indigenous territories, whose people were displaced in the 18th and 19th centuries as settlers moved in. Summit and Graymont, though small, were both important stops for farmers transporting crops such as cotton, corn, and tobacco to larger markets. Rivalry between the two towns became intense, particularly as they competed for business, schools, and influence.

The tension between Summit and Graymont came to a resolution in 1921, when the two towns agreed to merge, forming the new municipality of Twin City. This merger gave the new town a unique identity while also ensuring shared resources. Agriculture was the backbone of the local economy, with cotton dominating for decades until boll weevil infestations in the early 20th century forced farmers to diversify into peanuts, corn, and livestock. Small merchants, gins, and mills contributed to the local economy, providing employment and a community hub.

Infrastructure played an important role in shaping Twin City's development. The railroad was the original lifeline, enabling trade and passenger travel, while new state highways increased automobile traffic. U.S. Highway 80, which passes nearby, further integrated Twin City into regional networks, giving residents better access to Augusta, Savannah, and Macon. These improvements allowed the town to maintain its agricultural base while connecting to larger markets.

Community character has long been at the heart of Twin City. Civic pride grew after the merger, and institutions such as schools, churches, and civic organizations fostered a strong sense of unity. Twin City also became known for its proximity to George L. Smith State Park, a natural area featuring a mill pond, cypress swamp, and recreational opportunities. This natural setting, combined with the town's history, reinforced a strong cultural identity.

Today, Twin City is a small but resilient town that values its heritage while embracing modern conveniences. Residents enjoy peaceful living, access to outdoor recreation, and close-knit community life. Its identity as the product of unity gives Twin City a distinctive place among Georgia's small towns, and its balance of rural tradition and natural beauty continues to attract families and visitors alike.
