The area that would become Walkertown, North Carolina, was originally home to Saura and Cherokee peoples who lived among the woodlands and waterways of the northern Piedmont. European settlers arrived in the mid-18th century, drawn by the fertile soil, abundant timber, and proximity to trade paths linking the region to other developing settlements. The community later took its name from the Walker family, early landowners and influential settlers whose presence helped shape the area during its formative years.
