Warner Robins, Georgia, has its origins in the mid-20th century, though its roots stretch back to the small farming community of Wellston. Indigenous peoples of the Creek Nation once thrived in the region, relying on the Ocmulgee River and fertile lands for their way of life. After their forced removal in the 1820s and 1830s, settlers moved in, cultivating cotton and other crops that would sustain the county for generations. Houston County itself was established in 1821, and the Wellston community remained small until the pivotal events of World War II.

The transformation of Warner Robins came with the establishment of Robins Army Air Corps Depot in 1942. The depot, later renamed Robins Air Force Base, was named in honor of Brigadier General Augustine Warner Robins, considered the father of logistics for the modern Air Force. The base became a central hub for military aircraft repair and supply, drawing thousands of workers and quickly turning Wellston into a booming town. The influx of military families and workers gave rise to businesses, schools, and neighborhoods, creating a vibrant local economy built on defense and aviation.

As the military base expanded, so did the infrastructure of Warner Robins. Major highways, including U.S. Route 129 and Interstate 75, connected the city to the rest of Georgia, while the construction of roads and housing developments accommodated the rapid growth. The city developed utilities, transportation networks, and community services at a pace that mirrored its role as one of Georgia's fastest-growing cities during the post-war era. The proximity of the Middle Georgia Regional Airport and strong rail lines further integrated Warner Robins into the state's economic framework.
